THE National Youth Service Corps NYSC has criminalised the mobilisation of unqualified graduates by corps producing institutions.

The scheme said despite its effort to stem the tide of uploading unqualified candidates and graduates of part-time programmes, a few institutions have adopted new strategies to sustain the unwholesome practice.

This is part of resolutions made at the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Minna, Niger State.

NYSC, Director General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure during his address, stressed that any official or institution of higher learning that include names of unqualified graduates in their approved list for NYSC mobilization will be liable for criminal prosecution.

Already, the DG disclosed that two institutions of higher learning were currently under investigation by regulatory bodies for allegedly presenting unqualified persons to the Scheme for mobilization.

“Among other things, the law excludes all non-holders of HND and First Degree, graduates of institutions not recognized by the Federal Government and graduates of part-time programmes, etc.

“However, some institutions even as lately as the last mobilization exercise assisted people in these mentioned categories to infiltrate the service corps,” he said.

Kazaure said if found guilty, the two institutions being investigated would have appropriate sanctions meted out to them while any graduates fraudulently presented for mobilization would be withdrawn from service.

The Director-General reminded Corps Producing Institutions that, as trainers of future leaders, they have the responsibility to guide their students to the right path rather than abet forgery and other criminal tendencies.

He also highlighted some other aspects of the mobilization guidelines, which the institutions are expected to properly adhere to, and sought their cooperation towards the achievement of a seamless mobilization process.
