The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS DELTA), Warri Naval Base, last Thursday, took free medical service to Ogunnu community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Commander of NNS DELTA, Commodore Joseph Dzunve, who supervised the free medical service, said the exercise was part of navy’s mandate to create a friendly environment in host communities and other sister security agencies.
The naval boss said the navy was committed to providing security in waterways in its area of responsibility as well as promoting well-being through health awareness and treatment.
Commodore Dzunve, represented by Captain Mudiaga Ejumabone during the medical programme which started last year, said serious cases would be referred to the navy hospital with financial assistance.
“The programme provides health awareness, treatment and builds harmony within the navy and the society.
“We are here today to let the people know that the navy cares about their well-being.
“We are giving free medical attention, but if the case is beyond us here, we advise them to come to our hospital to address the issue with stipends to carry out the treatment,” he said.
He urged the people to take their health serious, adding that the only way the navy could project such message is through the raphsody exercise.
In his appreciation message, the Vice Chairman, Warri South Local Government Area and member of Ogunu community, Mr Charley Etsaghare, who represented the Chairman, Mr Mofe Edema, thanked the navy for the gesture.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach, Mrs Rebecca Amoyaw, could not hide her feelings.
She said: “for the drugs, and check-up, I received, I say thank you to the Navy. We really appreciate their effort.”
