Ministry of Mines and Steel Development is currently in talks with Iran on ways Nigeria and the country can strengthen their trade relations, particularly in the mining sector.
Minister of State at the ministry, Abubakar Bwari, who spoke when he received in audience Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Morteza Zarchi, said that the two countries shared a lot in common as members of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in diversification of their economies.
He noted that Iran, in terms of mining technology, could impart Nigeria positively, owing to its advancement in coal power and mining exploration.
Earlier, Ambassador Zarchi observed that Nigeria and Iran were exploring other sources of revenue by diversifying the economy in mining and agriculture.
He assured that Iranian investors were interested in partnering Nigeria in the mining sector.
The envoy stated the need to involve private sector in expansion of the economic cooperation of the two countries.
