THE Birnin Kudu Local Government Council of Jigawa on Sunday said it had procured 200 sets of two-seater furniture worth N3.1 million for distribution to some selected primary schools.
The Information Officer in charge of the council, Alhaji Mustafa Namadi, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.
Namadi said that the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Malam Adamu Garba, had made public the procurement of the furniture on Thursday in Birnin Kudu.
He said the furniture would be distributed to 10 selected schools in dire need of seats.
The spokesman added that Garba also gave an assurance that the council would provide additional 200 seats for distribution to other schools in the area.
The gesture, he said, was part of the council’s efforts to address shortage of seats in its primary schools.
Namadi further told NAN that the council procured electrical equipment worth N2 million for the completion of electrification projects in Jangargari and Dumus, adding that the Babaldu and Kwangwarala health centers would be connected with the National grid.
The information officer added that the council provided beds, mattresses, tables, chairs and other equipment worth N2.5 million for Kwangwarala hospital.
He also said that the council procured kits worth N5 million to effect repairs on broken and damaged hand pumps across the local government area.
