Wild youths from the Itsekiri stock, on Thursday, inflicted injuries on a CHANNELS Television reporter, Tom Edet, and others at Egbokodo in Warri.
The Egbokodo, an Itsekiri community in Warri South Government Area of Delta State, apart from leaving Edet bleeding on his right wrist, swooped on other journalists during the media coverage of an empowerment programme of the state’s job office.
They also went after another reporter, John Osuji of the Delta Rainbow Television (DRTV), and manhandled him, leaving him with injuries.
He was repeatedly pushed, clubbed and almost fell into a pond, as other journalists and guests at the event scampered for safety.
The journalists from various media houses had accompanied a team led by Professor Eric Eboh, Delta Chief Job Creation Officer, to allocate 138 startup fish ponds to a cluster of 64 trained beneficiaries of the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP).
But while Eboh and other resource persons were briefing the beneficiaries and were about to allocate dugout ponds, a gang of fierce-looking Ekpokodo Itsekiri youths invaded the scene and ordered people to leave.
One of the community assailants went after the Channels reporter and clubbed him with a wood, broken from a signpost.
