THE National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) and other Islamic organisations have been urged to redouble their efforts at encouraging moral values and combating youth restlessness in the country.
The immediate past executive secretary of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Abdur-Rasak Ajala, gave the charge recently during the Hijrah Week celebration of NACOMYO, Mushin branch.
Ajala lamented what he called the breakdown of moral values in the society as a result of economic downturn.
He, therefore, challenged religious organisations to partner with the government in inculcating right values in youths.
He, however, commended NACOMYO Mushin for its humanitarian gestures.
Delivering the closing lecture at the one-week event, Sheik Soliu Hussein As-Somodanniy called for deemphasising of oil as the backbone of the economy and a return to agriculture.
He also called for welfare programme for the masses to discourage crime while seeking support for the anti-corruption crusade of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The Mushin coordinator of NACOMYO, Nasirudeen Alabi, reiterated the commitment of the organisation to human capital development.
This, he said, informed the programme for the Hijrah celebration which included visit and donation of items to destitute homes as well as setting up of a non-governmental organisation called Muslim Welfare and Empowerment Foundation which focuses on empowerment.
He, however, sought the cooperation of well-meaning members of the public in terms of finance and logistics as well as employment opportunities for members of the organisation who have been trained.
The Hijrah Week celebration featured programmes like visit to destitute home, march past, special Jumat service and lecture.
