In furthering his efforts at making Lagos a totally environmental compliance economy, and Lagos commitment to the provision of energy security, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has assured that Lagos will remain a place where quality of live would not be compromised.
Ambode, while speaking at the commissioning of the Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation as part of activities marking the Lagos@50 celebrations, reiterated governments commitment to the provision of a live-able city and energy security in the state.
“While we are eager to provide an environmental friendly society capable of sustaining good health of the citizenry, will also provide similar enabling environment for the business concern Such as Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation to become a self – sustaining revenue generating organisation that contributes to the Lagos State Economic development and GDP growth.
The Governor, Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olawale Oluwo,who explained that the Corporation was established by an Act of Lagos State parliament in 2013 as an investment arm of the Lagos State government, was tasked to harness the gains of Oil and Gas exploitation and as well invest in global oil activities.
According to him, the commissioning marks another giant step in the determination of the state to effectively leverage on the recently acquired status of oil producing state in Nigeria.
He recalled that Ibile Oli and Gas Corporation that commenced operation in December last year was set as the business arm of the State in the Oil and Gas industry including upstream and downstream activities with the overall responsibility of ensuring that the interest of all stakeholders is fairly and adequately protected.
“Let me emphasize that Lagos State is at the threshold of witnessing a boost in economic growth and employment generation given the evolving developments in its investment climate, particularly the oil and gas sector.
“The corporation being commissioned today will complete the Lagos State Oil and Gas security tripod of exploration and logistics in the western axis, refining in the Eastern axis, and funding and exportation through the banks and the ports in the central axis”, the Governor said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Corporation, Miss. Ola Adebayo-Doherty, restated that the commissioning of the oil company will further create jobs and build an integrated and competitive oil and gas business that consistently delivers value for stakeholders and one that creates a sustainable positive social impact on our communities and hosts.
“Our vision is to become a commercially viable entity contributing to Lagos state’s economic development and GDP growth speedily and as well build a resilient, competitive and flexible upstream, downstream oil and gas oriented business across the the value chain”, she said.
The Managing Director affirms that the commissioning demonstrates the exemplary leadership of Governor Ambode- led administration in the state, urging all stakeholders to continue joining hands and support to the organisation, while affirming that the company is deploying international best practices, due diligence and social responsibility in discharging their official mandate.
