A group under the aegis of Democracy Dividends Development Initiatives has called on the Middle Belt nationalities to support Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s call for the restructuring of Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Kaduna on Saturday the national President of the group, Suleiman Ahmed Akasawua, said the restructuring of the country will give the Middle Belt and other minorities across the country a greater sense of belonging and voice in the Nigeria project.
According to him, the present structure of the country has made the people of the region second class citizens in their father’s land.
Akasawua, maintained that having monitored the antecedents of the Former Vice President for years, his desire to reposition the country was not born out of greed or selfishness but patriotic zeal.
Akasawua who was former Kaduna State governorship aspirant, argued that Atiku’s effort for Nigerians to rejig the present federal structure would correct the imbalances and suspicion, which has affected the nation’s progress.
He added that the restructuring if effected it would solve the insecurity, underdevelopment and agitations facing the nation.
His words:”We are calling on all Middle Belt people and other minorities across the country to support Abubakar’s genuine call and efforts for restructuring of Nigeria.
‘We the people of Middle Belt have been agitating for restructuring and an opportunity has now presented itself. It is for us to support the restructuring for a better Nigeria. Not only Middle Belt but other minorities across Nigeria too should support the call and work towards the actualisation,” Barrister Akasawua said.
