T HE Federal Government has said it will continue to encourage initiatives aimed at propelling the development of Science, Technology and Vocational education in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who said this in Abuja, added that science, technology and vocations, remained key to the growth and development of any nation.
Adamu spoke at the opening ceremony of the dissemination meeting on Science and Technology Education National Policy with Desk Officers drawn from the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by the Director, Human Resource Management Department, Dr. Mohamed Umar, the Minister said the main objective of the meeting was to “educate, spread information and knowledge of the Science and Technology Education National Policy to the states, stakeholders and other relevant agencies in order to guide actions, coordination, monitoring and evaluation in the sub-sector” thereby ensuring sound Science and Technical Education delivery at all levels.
Director, Science and Technical Education Department, Mr. Joel Samuel Ojo said the draft National Policy document had been presented to Reference Committee on Technology and Science Education at the Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCEE) held in Awka, Anambra State from 27th February to 3rd March, 2017.
He said the Policy document had been adopted by JCCE and would eventually be recommended for approval to the National Council on Education (NCE).
The Director was represented by Mr. Emmanuel Ocheja, Deputy Director, Vocational programmes Division in the Ministry.
