Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has warned that the police authorities would not hesitate to sanction any police officer who deviated from the norms, but rather seeks to bring the police to ridicule and tarnish its image.
The IGP, who gave the warning on the occasion of the decoration of newly promoted officers in Abuja, on Friday, said the measure would serve as a deterrent to others who may be planning to toe the same line of disgrace.
The newly-promoted officers were all the acting Commissioners of Police; the Force spokesman, Don Awunah; CP Mobile Force, Bello Ahmed, as well as the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, Afiz Inuwa and CP, IGP Monitoring Unit, Garba Umar.
Others included acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abuh Sani, Assistant Commissioners of Police Adamu Bakori, Kolo Yusuf, Abba Kyari and Superintendent of Police Abdulkareem Abdullahi.
IGP Idris said the promotion exercise was one of the motivational incentives to honour officers who have distinguished themselves in their various duty posts, adding a launch pad for greater challenges and efforts to accomplish organisational goals.
“I implore you to wear your new ranks with a deep sense of commitment to duty, responsibility and humility”, he said as he further directed departmental heads, zonal and state commands, formations and units to reactivate the reward system to deserving officers.
The IGP said tremendous successes were recorded in technical support as well as fighting corruption and professional misconduct in the Force, adding, “These achievements are a result of the collective efforts of these senior officers whose devotion and conduct have been exemplary.”
