One of the grand sons of former Bauchi state deputy governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, late Garba Gadi, Alhaji Ghazali Mohammed, has revealed that the last wish of his grand dad, who was a foundation member of the ruling party was that it should “not to allow rogue elements to rule Nigeria again”.
Gadi, who was with the late former deputy governor of Bauchi state and Co-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Merger Committee died last week in New Delhi, India, after a protracted illness. He was buried at the weekend in Azare, Bauchi State.
But Mohammed who was with the late APC chieftain at his hospital bed disclosed in a statement that his grandfather expressed great concern that forces undermining the country interest were determined to frustrate the good intentions of the Buhari administration.
“My grandfather admonished Nigerians and in particular the APC not to allow rogue elements to rule Nigeria again.”
“If nothing else, President Muhammadu Buhari has instituted policies designed to plug the leakages of our public finance forever. With transparency instituted, everything will fall in place. This is why these rogue elements at every turn are putting obstacles on the anti-graft war being waged by President Buhari. They are also obstructing Buhari’s foreign loans meant to develop the country’s deficit infrastructure. They don’t want Buhari to succeed.”
Mohammed said when he asked his grandfather’s position on his illegal removal as Bauchi deputy governor under the administration of Malam Isa Yuguda, the deceased revealed that he fell out of favour with his boss, Malllam Yuguda, because he refused to join the former governor to defect to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) from the defunct All Nigerian Peoples’ Party (ANPP).
“He said that he had put it behind him and was only grateful to the lawyers who handled his case, for him, – Abubakar Malami (SAN), Okoi Obono Obla Esq, and Femi Falana (SAN).”
“His sole worry before he died was corruption which he reasoned is at the root of Nigeria’s underdevelopment, the emergence of Boko Haram and gross unemployment.”
Tribune Online findings revealed that the late Garba Gadi joined the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), where he became the Chief of Staff to chairman of the party, Chief Tony Momoh. He led the merger committee team of the defunct CPC and contributed immensely to formation of APC.
In attendance at the burial were the Governor of Bauchi, His Excellency Abubakar Mohammed, former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Yayale, Ahmed, Emir of Misau, Captain Bala Jibrin and host of other dignitaries.
