THE Delta State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nathaniel Omo-Onyeke, Delta State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) weekend declared that the spirit of late Senator Francis Okpozo will propel the party to wrestle power from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in 2019.
Omo-Onyeke who made the declaration when the party elders and the state caretaker committee paid late Okpozo’s family condolence visit at Ozoro in Isoko and their residence in Benin City said, APC will pursue the dreams and vision of late Senator Francis Spanner Okpozo to ensure that the party take the reins of powers in memory of the late elder statesman.
While emphasising that late Chief Okpozo was a fighter for justice and equity throughout his lifetime, a legacy he said was left behind for all his followers and admirers, Omo-Onyeke said the late Senator was anointed by God to make a change in Delta State but died at a time the party needed him most.
He however promised that the party’s leadership would sustain late Okpozo’s legacies to preserve his leadership acumen, which stood him out as a symbol of the party’s unity in the state.
The Caretaker chairman assured Okpozo’s widow, Anna, that the party would not abandon the family even after the burial ceremonies.
Also speaking, the Interim State Secretary of the party, Dennis Nwanokwai, said a lot of plans were in top gear to give Senator Okpozo a befitting burial because apart from being a leader of the party in Delta State, he was also a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) who command great respect and followers during his lifetime.
According to him, “He is our mentor. Delta State APC was conceived in his compound. He was straightforward, bold and known across the country.
Nwanokwai while speaking on the party affirmed that the Omo-Onyeke led interim executive as the authentic APC recognised body in Delta State based on a High Court judgment.
“By the decision of the High Court, the congresses that produced the erstwhile executive were declared null and void. The decision is still valid and has not been desert aside. There is no other state executive apart from ours.
“They no longer exist in the eyes of the law. The judgment went further to say that the NWC can no longer recognised them. They have right to freedom of association.”
Senator Okpozo died in Benin City at a private hospital after a brief battle with yet to be diagnosed ailments.
