AS part of activities to create awareness on the need to prioritise the availability of potable water, the Christian Council of Nigeria, has organised programmes to commemorate the 2017 World Water Day, with the theme, Why Waste Fresh Water?
Working around the following advocacy points: Make every drop of water count; water is life don’t waste it; every drop changes lives, the organisation distributed stickers and flyers around various communities in Lagos State.
There was a community awareness and sensitisation around Tejuoso Market in Lagos State, as well in other states of the federation. There was also a talk in Kaduna with the theme, Why Waste Water.
Last Sunday, an ecumenical service was held at Bishara Baptist Church, Idi-Araba, Lagos, in which governments at all levels were called upon to make water accessibility a priority, just as it should be free and accessible.
The initiative, supported by the Ecumenical Water Network of the World Council of Churches in Geneva, was attended by the general secretary of CCN, Reverend (Dr) Ibrahim Yusuf Wushishi; national programme assistant, Reverend Kolade Fadahunsi; Pastor in Charge of Bishara Baptist Church, Lagos, Reverend Cephas Musa; coordinator, Preach Water Foundation, Right Reverend Davis Faleye; Programme Executive, Preach Water Foundation, Elder (Mrs) Juliana Williams; Programme Officer, Community Hope Development Foundation (CHODF), Ms Aduak Yebyen, among others.
