THE Bayelsa Police Command has formally started the change begins with
me campaign initiative of the federal government and called for
change in attitude from the public to make society better towards
national development.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police had earlier
launched the campaign in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja
according to the State Police Commissioner, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi at the
Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa. The Police Boss led the rank and file to distributed fliers to
commuters, traders and mechanics operating at the Ekeki Motor Park.
Ogunjemilusi said ”the Nigeria Police Force is everywhere and that
owing to its population, it could reach all Nigerians, thereby
motivating the motorists, traders and artisans to
imbibe change as the police had also changed on its part to shun bribe
or collect money to grant bail to a suspect”.
He said ”the police will not collect bribe to bail a suspect in custody,
and urged the public not to give bribe to bail anyone in police
custody”
In addition, he pointed that the fliers have the mobile numbers of the
Inspector General of Police, and that of the Divisional Police
Officers in the state, it also includes the emergency numbers that they could call to lodge
their complains, assuring that complaints would be addressed.
He restated that bail is free and that the public should report any
policeman in the habit of demanding bribe to bail a suspect.
Ogunjemilusi reiterated that the change begins with them, as they
would neither condone malingering in office nor acts of corruption, and
advised the market women not to sell their goods and products at
abnormal price under the guise that the exchange rate of dollar has
gone high.
He, however, urged commuters to adhere to the speed limit, as
stipulated by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and that they
should ensure that their vehicle and drivers license are up to date,
while passengers are advised to report any driver that is reckless and
over-speeding on the road.
Ogunjemilusi reiterated that bail is free and should any policeman
demand money to grant suspect bail, the public should not give them
but report to police complain bureau hot lines on the distributed
fliers.
To this end, officers and men of the force displayed various placards
which read: BAIL IS FREE, SAY NO TO CORRUPTION, WE ARE POLICING WITH
INTEGRITY, and REPORT SUSPICION AND FRAUD TO THE POLICE among others.
