Avengers to Garba Shehu: We did not kill soldiers, policemen

MEMBERS of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have denied ever snuffing life out of soldiers, policemen or even kidnapping oil workers let alone involving in waterways criminalities in any part of the country.

Reacting to the article, “President Buhari Sharpens Focus on Niger Delta” by Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr Shehu Garba, published in Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, the group, in a release titled: “Garba Shehu, Get Your Record Straight” and posted on its website same Wednesday, asked the media aide to get his record straight and stop misinforming the public on its activities.

“We want Garba Shehu (Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media and Publicity) to go and get his record straight.

“Niger Delta Avengers have not killed and kidnapped oil workers, we are not into sea piracy, and we have never killed Policemen,” the group stated.

The Avengers, who resumed hostilities on oil and gas facilities last weekend, averred that the Federal Government was aware of elements snuffing life out of soldiers and policemen in the Niger Delta region.

According to the militant group, moles allegedly planted by the FG are responsible for the killings and not the Avengers.

“The Buhari-led government knows the people attacking soldiers and killing policemen.

“It’s their sleepers’ agents that are doing it, so they should stop tagging Niger Delta Avengers to killing, kidnapping, ransacking of policemen, soldiers and individuals in the region,” the group warned.

On allegations that several militant groups have sprung up from the region in the wake of FG’s positive disposition to dialogue as claimed by Shehu in the article, the group denied being part of the alleged negotiation jamboree, adding that the FG had probably coalesce with frauds.

“We the Niger Delta Avengers have not negotiated with anyone. So, we don’t know where Mr Garba Shehu and General Babagana Munguno, the National Security Adviser, are getting their information from.

“If they have been negotiating with anybody, it clearly shows they had been negotiating with fraudsters and their (national security agency) created militant group,” the group alleged.
