Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have resolved to meet with acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to discuss modalities for the party mid-term convention.
At the end of their meeting with the party national working committee, Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong who spoke with newsmen on behalf of his colleagues declared that a meeting with Professor Osinbajo became necessary, in order to fix a date for the convention in the absence of ailing President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the mid-term convention earlier fixed for April has since been aborted twice, due to the absence of President Buhari.
Governor Lalong further expressed regret that the governors were about to open discussion with President Buhari on plans for the convention before the latter’s recent trip to the United Kingdom.
He said: “Well, the issue of the national convention was raised and we had even taken a decision on it at the last meeting but unfortunately the President is not here as the leader of the party.”
“What we agreed was since we have an acting president, the team which was supposed to meet with the President with suggested date, we now agreed that the same process should start again with the acting president.”
“This is a convention in our thinking and we want to conduct a convention which is constitutional and the leader of the party must also be at the convention. So, at the time we agreed to meet with Mr. President on the issue, unfortunately the president had to travel out.”
“Since the approach was first to the President, we all agreed to meet with the acting president with the same process to agree on a date for the convention.”
“Lalong also disclosed that the governors and the Chief Odigie Oyegun led national working, jointly reviewed performance of governors ‘’and came to the conclusion that so far, so good.”
“The purpose of this meeting was to review our party activities and to talk about preparation for our second year anniversary.”
“The meeting took a total review of the activities so far and the performance of our party in the various states, where we have APC government and came to the conclusion that so far, so good. We have done very well.”
Earlier in his opening remarks, national chairman of the party, Odigie Oyegun thanked the governors for seizing the initiative to hold joint monthly meeting with the national working committee which he noted was already generating positive results. He equally expressed satisfaction with the performance of the governors in their respective states.
“I want to say that I am so happy that we have met twice and we are seeing the effects, very positive, very salutary effect are beginning to manifest in the party.”
“The numbers, with which we turned out alone is thus, of an encouragement to members of the National Working Committee and I thank you for your commitment.”
“Since we started making a lot of hopes that is happening, I have invitations all over now to come for commissioning of projects.”
“I have a wonderful experience in Zamfara state where I had distinct privilege of commissioning very two magnificent water projects with facilities to reticulate, redistribute water to over 6,000 km of pipelines. I said I am especially happy because its effects on the lives of people is obvious.”
“It made me to see that our Governors are in fact, embarking on projects that touch the ordinary man and woman and made them feel that they have benefited from the APC government.”
“Already we decided that we are going to do these projects of showcasing in the various states.”
“In fact, it is sad that we are full of issues at the central level which the social media has tended to concentrate on.”
“That all the good works that our governors are doing tend to be downplayed. I thank you Zamfara governor. On Saturday, I am going to Kaduna state. I was to be in Kano state tomorrow (Thursday) but I can’t, so, I am sending the deputy national chairman north to Kano.”
“So, we are very glad at this development and very soon, the public will see that it isn’t just the rate of Naira that is the issue but in fact, progress is being made in all our states, 24 of them all over the country.”
