Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has installed Oba Adebayo Okubena as the new Elerunwon of Erunwon in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of the state after seven years of vacant chieftaincy stool.
The governor, while presenting the staff of office and instrument of Appoinment to the traditional ruler at Epiphany Primary School, Erunwon, charged him to consider his appointment as a call to serve.
He urged him to collaborate with other stakeholders and credible corporate bodies to complement government’s efforts in the provision of infrastructural facilities.
Amosun, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, noted that the current administration regarded the traditional institution a patner in progress in the rebuilding mission, noting that its grass-roots development could only be achieved with the support and prayers of the traditional rulers.
“Our administration regards the traditional institution as a partner in progress. To this end, we urge the traditional ruler to mobilise his people to support our administration, particularly in the prompt payment of approved taxes, rates and levies on which government relies to bring dividends of democracy to the people of state,” he said.
In his remarks, the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, appreciated the Senator Amosun-led administration for its respect and attention given to the traditional institution and ensuring vacant stools are occupied
Also speaking, Chairmen of Ijebu North-East Local Government Area, Mr Sunday Onafuye and Yemoji Local Council Development Area, Mr Dapo Adebajo, implored the new traditional ruler to bring his subjects together for the growth and development of Erunwon community.
