Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has commended the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) for promoting good Corporate Governance in the country.
The governor, who made the remark, recently, in a goodwill message to the institute in celebration of its Golden Jubilee anniversary in Lagos, noted that it is only corporate governance that can address the numerous challenges facing the nation, including the recession the economy is presently going through.
Governor Ambode said the nation would be a better place for all and sundry if individuals, organisations and governments at all levels embraced the principles of Corporate Governance.
In his remarks, the President of the Institute, Dr Nat Ofo, went memory lane on the establishment of ICSAN 50 years ago and how it became chartered in 1991.
He said some of the achievements of the Institute included its contributions to the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) of 1990 and the promotion of Corporate Governance in the country.
Dr Ofo said most of their activities and suggestions to policy formulations by government were published in both the broadcast and print media for policy makers.
Highlights of the occasion were the Awards to some past Presidents of the Institute living and the dead, as well as members of staff.
