WIFE of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has returned to the country after a week’s visit to her ailing husband in the United Kingdom.
She arrived Abuja on Tuesday morning and announced that the president was recuperating fast and had thanked acting President Yemi Osinbajo for his loyalty.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Suleiman Haruna, Director of Information to the Wife of the President, Aisha conveyed the appreciation of the President to Nigerians over their constant prayers and said “he will soon be with them as he is recuperating fast.”
Mrs Buhari called on Nigerians to continue to be strong in the face of challenges and to support the Federal Government in implementing the agenda for which they were elected.
“Mr President thanked the acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, for his loyalty and called on Nigerians to continue to support the acting President in his effort to actualise the mandate of the All Progressive Congress (APC),” the statement quoted her as saying.
Aisha left Abuja for London last week Tuesday to join her husband three weeks after he left for a follow up medical consultation with his doctors.
According to a post on her Facebook account at the time, media aide to wife of the president, Bisi Olumide-Ajayi, before she jetted out, Aisha had expressed appreciation to the millions of Nigerians who have been praying for her husband’s quick and safe return to Nigeria.
“Her Excellency will spend some time with her Husband, President Muhammadu Buhari who is on a medical vacation,” she wrote.
It would be recalled that President Buhari traveled to London on May 7, 2017 for the follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.
According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, at the time, Buhari had assured all Nigerians that there was no cause for worry.
The statement had said that the president was very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the people, and hoped they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of the nation.
“The length of the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President,” the statement had said.
But it informed that the President had transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of Representatives, in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
