Air Marshal Abubakar commissions multi-million naira housing units

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Sadique Abubakar has commissioned multi-million naira housing units at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos.

Speaking during the commissioning on Tuesday, Air Marshal Abubakar, stated that the welfare of the personnel is of utmost importance to the Force and that he was delighted to be invited for the commissioning.

He however warned that the era of government facilities getting bad is over. He urged commanders to take extra measures to ensure that the facilities are kept in good condition in line with his vision.

According to Air Marshal Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Head Quarters, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Ajibola Augustine Jekelo, “I am delighted to be here to commission additional six units of 3-bedroom residential quarters for married officers in Lagos area. The provision of befitting accommodation structures with necessary facilities for personnel is one of the priorities on our agenda.

“We are also determined to ensure that the NAF personnel and families live in a befitting environment. Hence, on assumption of office, we have embarked on new constructions of buildings to address the inadequacies of office and residential accommodation in various units across the country.

“We equally commenced massive renovation and upgrading of existing quarters in dilapidated condition in other to bring them up to standard. It is our firm belief that personnel will re-dedicate themselves to the attainment of NAF constitutional role once our welfare needs have been sufficiently met.”

He said he was impressed with efforts to maintain standard without comprise in building the projects and efforts put at maintaining cleanliness of the base. “I implore you all to make judicious use of the facilities we are commissioning today. And also, you must continue to maintain all facilities and infrastructure provided for you and your families. Remember, it is our responsibilities to educate our family members on how to maintain these structures,” he concluded.

The contractor that handled the projects, Tajudeen Babatunde Akanbi, thanked the leadership of the NAF for the trust and confidence entrusted in him and his company, Messrs Lastak Nigeria Ltd, for the projects. According to him, “we are happy and appreciative of the leadership of the NAF for the trust they have in us for providing quality housing projects for the personnel. We are assuring them we will always uphold high standard and ensure quality at all times in order for the trust not to be breached.”

He said “it is part of the company’s policy not to compromise standards, that’s why we are handling these projects for them. By Allah’s grace, we have been given another one which is under construction and many more will still come.”
