A two-time chairman of Ifedayo Local Government of Osun State, Chief David Osundina, has described the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke as a deep scar and a profoundly agonising experience for the body polity.
Chief Osundina, who is also the Asiwaju of Oke Ila Orangun, in a statement issued from his Atlanta, United States base, said Adeleke’s death had robbed the poor masses of the state of their hero while the political firmament would not remain the same for a long time to come.
The octogenarian ex-council boss recalled that Adeleke gave the state quality leadership while he was governor between 1992 and 1993 during which time he (Osundina) was a leading council chairman in the state.
“At the height of the agitation against the annulment of the June 12 election of 1993, Adeleke, despite his relative youthfulness, rallied the entire state for democracy in a fearless manner. His relationship with all local government chairmen and others who worked with him was excellent. He was supportive in disposition and progressive in action. He was a true leader.
“I know the Redeemer lives. The first few hours of the breaking news of the departure of our hero, ex-governor, Distinguished Senator Isiaka Adeleke , I was speechless , my wife burst into uncontrollable tears. The beauty of Osun State is pilfered from the ancient plains of Ede land. He was a patriot, a political giant and a precious gem of our nation. Senator Adeleke was an incredible leader who loved the poor, the downtrodden, justice and fair play. He fought a good fight. He won many laurels for Osun State. His absence in our political firmament is no doubt a deep scar on our beliefs and the promise we live, fight and struggle for.
“While it is profoundly agonizing that he left so soon, my prayer, however, is that God Almighty grants his great and gentle soul rest in His bosom,” Osundina said.
