The Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development, Honourable Ladi Adebutu, has visited the site of the fire incident in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, in which some residential houses and over eight shops were torched.
The cause of the inferno was linked to an electrical spark in one of the shops.
It took the determination of the people of Ikenne to put the fire under control before it could do more damage.
Honourable Adebutu consoled the victims and asked them to thank God as no live was lost in it.
He bemoaned the unpreparedness and inefficiency of Fire Service Department in the state, wondering why the service refused to respond to the emergency.
He admonished the Ogun State government to consider the well-being and safety of the people of the state as paramount.
The lawmaker gave money to the affected people and requested that the money be used to rebuild the damaged properties.
In appreciation, the people expressed appreciation to Adebutu for his visit and concern.
Mr Obinna Kanu, one of the victims, said that it was no surprise that Adebutu came to sympathise with them as he had always known him to be a compassionate politician.
