The spiritual head of Shafaudeen-In-Islam, Professor Sabitu Ariyo Olagoke, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari -led administration to address the problem of the current economic recession which has affected the youth and children in the country.
This was contained in a lecture entitled: “Economic recession: Effects on children in Nigeria: The way out” he delivered during the Shafaudeen Ishrat 2017, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday.
Professor Olagoke said there was the need for relief techniques in cushioning the effect of the recessed economy through government relief strategy, adding that there is equally the need for philanthropists to support government in alleviating the suffering of the people, especially women, children and the youth.
He urged relevant stakeholders to recognise and address the relief needs of communities in a recessed economy and urged government to improve upon social services for the people.
The professor also called on government at all levels to implement favourable insurance policies to cover the medical needs of children and make education free and compulsory as well as stressed the need for government to formulate and implement relief policies for children.
Professor Olagoke said that to solve these problems, government must ensure regular payment of salary of workers.
