National leader of the Accord party and former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on Wednesday, said his party would not contest the creation of 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) proposed by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He charged Ajimobi to go ahead with the decision and also conduct local government election into the existing 33 councils as well as the LCDAs in earnest.
The former governor spoke at the empowerment programme organised by Honourable Samson Olasunkanmi Oguntade, Accord lawmaker representing Egbeda Local Government Area in the state House of Assembly.
In company with Ladoja to receive about 100 defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Accord, at the occasion, were Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Dr Nureni Adisa, Alhaji Bashir Lawal, all Accord state lawmakers and others,
Ladoja, who is also the Osi Olubadan, explained that the state government was afraid of conducting council election because it knew the outcome would not favour All Progressives Congress (APC), wondering what the government would tell the people to earn their votes.
Ladoja, who commended Oguntade for fulfilling his promises to his constituents, promised that the malfeasance that characterised the 2015 general election would not be allowed to recur in the state council election as well as the 2019 general election, God sparing his life.
He also berated the state government for the hardship currently being experienced by the people of the state, saying the government had borrowed more than it had the means to pay back.
In his remarks, Honourable Oguntade urged politicians to be honest and truthful always, stressing that, that was the only way to win the confidence of the electorate at all times.
He said the fulfilment of his electoral promises to the people cost him millions of naira, saying that the people deserved such gesture because of their support.
Other items given out at the programme included sewing machines, hair drying machines, generating sets, and cash donations to 13 people from each of the 11 wards in the local government area.
