THE Federal Government has reassured Nigerians and air travellers that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will wear a new look from the runway to the terminal, the lounge and the toilets after the ongoing rehabilitation.
Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said comprehensive rehabilitation was going on at the airport in addition to the runway that had been a major issue because of the closure of the airport.
He said the welfare of the elderly, physically challenged were also prioritized as the government was making provisions for a lounge for these categories of people.
While conducting journalists around the construction site in Abuja runway, the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, alongside the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told journalists that all necessary arrangements had been made to complete the runway by 19th April.
The Aviation Minister disclosed that about 50,000kg of Glass Fibre Grid was imported to help strengthen the runway from further decapitation.
He said: “We are going to open the airport come April 19th, and it will not only be opened in time, the terminal WI wear a new look, we are doing a complete rehabilitation of the terminal.
“We are putting escalators and lifts for departure and also we are opening lounge for the physically challenged and the elderly”.
He further explained that a new building was going on at the terminal D where more toilets and other services would be provided.
“The benefits of this airport closesure means there will be new terminal that is more robust and can take more passengers and create seamless floor of international and local travelers not mixing.
