SO far, the ongoing workforce restructuring exercise of the Oyo State government has led to the dismissal of 662 workers and removal of 2,021 fictitious names from government’s payroll while the while the fate of 684 others may be hanging in the balance.
Head of Service, Mr Soji Eniade, made this known on Tuesday, while disclosing resolutions of this week’s state executive council meeting.
The 662 staff dismissed were found to have got into the civil and public service with fake Senior Secondary School Certificates among other higher certificates, while the 2,021 ghost workers were discovered in the Biometric Verification Number (BVN) exercise.
The 662 staff dismissed comprises 305 staff of the local government, 152 in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, 149 of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), 28 in parastatals, 26 staff of the state’s tertiary institutions and two of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The 2,031 fictitious names expunged from the payroll included 1,432 pensioners on the state government pension roll, 84 pensioners on the local government pension roll, among others.
In the exercise, which has spanned months, Eniade said the civil servants were mandated to submit copies of their credentials whereby consultants hired for the verification exercise sifted genuine from fake certificates.
Adding, he stated that the 684 members of staff whose fates were hanging in the balance were not found at their duty posts during the physical verification of staff.
Eniade however stated that such persons were bound to prove why they were not found at their duty posts when the verification team visited.
“The restructuring focused on the quantity and quality of civil and public servants in the state. The intention is to have the right size, correct figure of civil and public servants in the state’s MDAs, academic institutions among other parastatals,” Eniade said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun, has disclosed that the next town hall meeting involving Governor Abiola Ajimobi and other stakeholder groups, will hold next Monday, in Saki.
