NO fewer than six people lost their lives while 10 others sustained injuries on Thursday, in Jos Plateau State, when a lorry driver lost control and rammed into vehicles and commercial tricycles with passengers on board.
The accident occurred at about 7:00 pm when a lorry driver conveying maize from Saminaka in Kaduna State to Onisha, Anambra State, suddenly lost control as a result of brake failure at the Farin Gada area of Jos North Local Government Area causing confusion.
Meanwhile, no fewer than four people were killed, while six others were seriously wounded in an auto crash along Okene-Lokoja road on Friday.
The accident which happened at about 9.30 am involved an Abuja bound commercial Toyota Sienna bus with registration number BDG 787 XT, a Toyota saloon car marked LKJ 134 AA and a motorcycle.
The accident that occurred at Irepeni saw the two vehicles having head-on-collision, as the saloon car was heading towards Okene.
The four occupants of the Toyota saloon car died on the spot, while the two people on the motorcycle and four in the bus with the inscription, “Blessed Coal City”, sustained various degrees of injuries.
The driver of the bus, who was also injured, told newsmen that the accident was caused by a tyre burst.
He said one of the front tyres of the car burst, which made the driver lose control and swerved on the highway.
According to him, it was in the process that the driver hit the motorcycle before colliding with his vehicle.
He however said the car was in top speed when the tyre burst, adding that this made it difficult for the driver to immediately control the vehicle.
