Three people were killed in Lokoja and Okene in Kogi State in different murder attacks carried out by gunmen.
Two brothers of the same mother were shot dead at about 8:30p.m. on Wednesday in front of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), while driving out of the hospital after a visit to their ailing mother.
A 32-year-old man, Victor Sadiq, was also killed by gunmen that invaded his residence in Zango, Okene-Lokoja road, Okene.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Lokoja incident involved one Ogwu Achim, a graduate of the Kogi State University, popularly known as “Ogwu Araka” and his younger brother.
Eyewitness accounts said the duo was driving out of the hospital when a car that had laid siege for hours at the entrance deliberately hit their car to halt their movement.
The occupants of the car, who included a woman were said to have immediately alighted and shot the victims at close range.
Sources alleged that the main target of the attack was a “youth leader” in the Eastern senatorial district of the state who had allegedly enjoyed political patronages from various governments in the state.
Also, sources said Sadiq was killed in the early hours of Thursday by unknown gunmen that scaled the fence of his residence and shot him in the presence of his wife and sisters.
It was learnt that the young man popularly called ‘Mr White’ was killed by the men who brought him from the first floor of his house to the living room downstairs and interrogated him.
They were said to have asked if he was the owner of the building and the cars parked inside and that when he responded in the affirmative, he was shot.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Williams Anya, who confirmed the incidents, however said the students’ unrest had not enabled the command to have the detail of the Okene assassination.
He said two people were killed in Lokoja, while police had already commenced investigation into the matter.
