Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu chapter have warned that the party may lose to the opposition in the forthcoming 2019 election, if the political crisis rocking the state is not immediately addressed.
The party chieftains under the aegis of Concerned Enugu APC Stakeholders said except the presidency and top party leaders wave into the crisis, APC may lose the state to the opposition party as it did in 2015.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja at the weekend in Abuja, former House of Representative candidate in the 2015 election, Hon. Ejike Njeze, said that the group had earlier petitioned the national secretariat of the party as well as the zonal office on the leadership tussle between chairman, Mr Ben Nwoye and South Zonal Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Eneukwu.
He maintained that there had been no response from the party leadership at the national level.
“Due to a plethora of petitions alleging various forms of wrong doing including embezzlement and misappropriation of campaign funds, signing of party checks without authorization from the state working committee, anti-party activities highhandedness, breach of party constitution, the state working committee of the party suspended him.”
“This action was taken to enable an independent committee set up by party leadership to objectively investigate the allegations of impropriety against him and make recommendations,” he said.
To this end, the group has called on the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, to intervene in the raging political crisis.
He added that: “Our resolve is to purge Enugu APC of compromised leadership and PDP moles within the party. As loyal party members, we seek your intervention because the current trend of factionalisation in the state is harmful and will have negative consequences on any electoral progress we intend to make in 2019.”
