APOSTLE Sunday Popoola of Word Communication Ministries (WOCOM) has urged Nigerians to be steadfast in prayers, just as he assured of unprecedented success in the new year.
Apostle Popoola gave the assurance in Ibadan during the 2017 Universal Week of Prayer, organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter.
Popoola, in a sermon with the theme “Way Out for the Nation” charged Nigerians to forget the experiences of the past, noting that God was about to do a new thing.
He added that God, in his infinite mercy, had a way of soothing people’s pain, hence the promise of an assured and hopeful tomorrow.
He posited that 2016 was the beginning of new things for Nigerians which rolled over to the present year, adding that good things happened to people unknowingly.
Popoola recalled the emergence of Donald Trump as America’s president against all odds, which he said was one of the signs that God was on the verge of doing new things.
“A larger part of the American society were of the opinion that Hilary Clinton, wife of former President Bill Clinton would emerge as the elected president.
“The victory of Trump was a significant sign that a new thing is beginning in the world. All the former five presidents of US were against him. Even the press ran him down.”
“If not for the grace of God, it would have been difficult to withstand the challenges and still win the election,” Popoola stated.
He said that one of the things God would do was to pour out his unprecedented spirit, adding that God would bring out real people who would project His goodwill on earth.
The CAN chairman, Oyo State chapter, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu, in his address, stated that the programme was mainly organised to pray for political leaders for God’s guidance in their dealings.
He admonished political office holders to always allow God direct their affairs, and advised Nigerians to have a positive mindset as it related to the current economic recession.
“There is no achievement that does not have its associated challenges. We should look at the recession that has faced the nation as a visitor that will soon evaporate.
“We should see it as one of the challenges that must come our way for the country to attain the position of a developed nation,” he said.
Akanmu called on Nigerians to allow God to drive the nation in 2017 while also praying for religious and political leaders.
